Termites in the Yard
If you've found termites in the yard, they may well be termites that cannot damage your home. There are over 300 different species of termites, of which only a few can attack the home.
If the termites are well separated from the home, and your home is framed in termite resistant materials (hardwood, cypress pine, LOSP or steel), you may well be comfortable with keeping an eye on your home yourself. If you have any concerns as to your home, call a professional pest control company for an inspection and advice.
If the termites are within a metre of the home with homes completed prior to July, 1995, or within 300mm of the home with homes completed after the 1st of July, 1995 then it is definitely time to call a professional pest control company for an inspection and advice.

The pictures above show a timber retaining wall against a home. The home had been treated using an organochlorine (heptachlor) chemical barrier prior to the 1st of July, 1995. An Australian Standard compliant inspection was carried out, and no termites were found to the home. A conclusion to reinstate the exterior perimeter termite barrier was reached on the basis of termite damage being found within the area that termites or damage should not be found in, if the original barrier was still effective. The barrier could have been disturbed after installation, or not installed properly during construction. If the termite damage wasn't adjoining the home, we wouldn't have reached the conclusion to reinstate the perimeter termite barrier.
