Fire Ants

Fire Ant control did fall to the cost of corporate property owners, with substantial penalties (up to $75,000.00) for failure to report Fire Ant infestations. Later this was taken over by DPI.

Treatment in the warmer months is through the use of the bait "AMDRO". Applied in the area of active Fire Ant nests, it is readily accepted by Fire Ants, and colony control is achieved. Spot treatments of nests can be performed, along with "broadacre" treatments for larger sites. In the cooler months, we are finding that the fire ants don't seem to take bait readily, so the nests are treated with chlorpyrifos. Attention to detail is required to ensure that sufficient volumes are achieved to totally saturate the nests.
