Found Termites?      What to do!

Visit the Environpest "Found Termites" Interactive Flow Chart

The first thing to do is not disturb the termites any more than you have to! To poke, prod, or spray with a can of Mortein is almost a natural reaction, but if they can be left alone, it will improve our chances of being able to treat the termite nest itself. The nest can be up to 100 metres away. Perhaps an old stump buried under the road, or a living tree. Gum and mango trees appear to be favourites,

Don't panic! Call a professional pest controller with termite experience. It is generally regarded that termites take 12 months to do serious economic damage, so treatment can wait until Monday!

It all starts with a professional timber pest inspection in accordance with Australian Standard 4349.3. Typically, following treatment, nest destruction is recommended using a termiticidal dust, and then residual treatment approximately a fortnight later. Dusts can be arsenic based, or the newer Insect Growth Regulator based dusts.
